Seperti yang telah diketahui program pemberian sarapan sehat ini telah di lakukan beberapa sekolah di Amerika. Guna mengatasi terjadinya kelaparan pada anak-anak saat disekolah. Saat ini Kanada juga akan berencana untuk menjalankan program ini disekolah-sekolah.

Minuman Manis Memberi Asupan Kalori Tambahan Pada Anak

Minuman manis bisa memicu meningkatnya risiko obesitas pada anak. Anak yang sudah kenal minuman manis sejak dini menjadi ketagihan. Berdasarkan survei diketahui bahwa asupan kalori berlebihan pada anak didapat dari minuman manis.

Menurut Steve Gortmaker dari Harvard School of Public Health, anak-anak yang berusia 2-19 tahun, mendapatkan sekitar 7 triliun kalori tambahan didapatkan dari minuman bergula per tahunnya. Hal ini disampaikannya dalam acara Obesity Society Annual Scientific Meeting di San Antonio, yang berlangsung pada tanggal 23 September silam.

Meningkatnya jumlah kalori dan gula bisa memicu epidemi obesitas. Seperti yang dikabarkan Huffingtonpost (27/9/2012), saat ini sekitar 17 % anak-anak dan remaja di Amerika Serikat mengalami obesitas. Jumlahnya lebih dari 12,5 juta anak-anak.

Pada penelitian baru yang telah tercatat dalam British Medical Journal terungkap bahwa anak-anak obesitas, memiliki faktor risiko lebih tinggi terkena penyakit jantung. Selain itu, dampak buruk juga bisa terjadi pada anak-anak. Hati mereka bisa berubah bentuknya menjadi lebih besar seperti orang dewasa, yang berisiko terkena penyakti jantung.

Untuk mengurangi tingkat risiko obesitas, para orang tua perlu mengurangi konsumsi minuman manis pada anaknya. Kalori tambahanpun bisa berkurang hingga 64 kalori perhari.
